The
Health and Safety Executive of Great Britain (HSE) has issued a Safety
Alert to operators of fuel and hazardous substance storage facilities with
large tanks.
The
Safety Alert comes as a result of information received from the on-going
investigation that is being overseen by the Buncefield Major Incident
Investigation Board. Research into the workings of high-level safety
systems has indicated that aspects of proper installation and testing are
critical to ensuring proper operation.
Operators
should carry out immediate
checks where level switches,
manufactured and supplied by Cynergy3 Components, Crydom or TAV are fitted
to their storage tanks.
There
are a number these switches fitted at tank installations in Europe, the
United States, and elsewhere. HSE has taken urgent action to bring these
details to the attention of operators of similar sites through its
regulatory contacts in Europe, Canada and the United States.
