Benchmarking is commonly used as a key improvement tool for companies.  During the process, many companies find out they may not be operating as efficiently as they originally thought.  Brad Wood, Director of Benchmarking at the Juran Institute in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, will discuss a case-study involving a terminal that benchmarked itself as part of an annual operation efficiency benchmarking consortium for bulk liquid storage and loading facilities.  Prior to benchmarking, the terminal believed that it would be among the highest performers.  However, the findings of the study indicated that its performance was fourth quartile in many areas, decreasing its competitiveness.  Wood will describe the findings of the study and discuss the series of changes that were initiated at the terminal to help improve performance. Attendees will learn how benchmarking can help their companies stay abreast of continuous improvements within the industry.
