The addition of ethanol to gasoline presents some unique fire fighting challenges.  Traditional methods of fire fighting against hydrocarbon fires have been found to be ineffective against polar-solvent fuels.  Terminals and fire responders need to understand the risks involved with storing these liquids and make informed decisions as to which foam concentrates should be used and the associated equipment and tactics to be employed.

Online registration is closed.  Download the registration form and bring it with you along with payment to the registration desk in Houston.  Space may not be available.  Please call the ILTA office to confirm availability.

Attendees will learn the characteristics of polar solvents, how they differ from hydrocarbons, and how they interact with hydrocarbons.  Participants will develop foam use strategies for controlling and fighting fires associated with ethanol-blended fuels.  During the training, emphasis will be placed on pre-planning and establishing working relations between the fire department and the facility operator.  This training is ideal for terminal facility personnel, incident managers and local fire responders.

• Local municipal fire responders are invited to participate on Thursday at no charge.
