ILTA and Ergon Inc. Host Representative Bennie Thompson in Vicksburg, MS

On August 25, ILTA and Ergon Inc. were delighted to host Representative Bennie Thompson (D-MS-2) at Ergon's Marine & Industrial Supply and Refining facilities in Vicksburg, MS. Congressman Thompson, who has represented western Mississippi since 1993, currently serves as the Ranking Member on the House Homeland Security Committee.

ILTA and Ergon used the opportunity to not only highlight the impact of Ergon both within Mississippi and around the world, but the wider industry's reliance on PFAS-based firefighting foams in facility safety as well.

Why It Matters:

As Congress refocuses on the PFAS issue, ILTA has routinely engaged the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee on reintroducing a liability exemption bill to protect the bulk liquid storage industry from CERCLA designations related to PFAS remediation. While a bill may reemerge from the Senate, securing House co-sponsorship will be critical. Representative Thompson, as a leading Democrat in the chamber, expressed openness to working with ILTA on this issue.

Get Involved:

Hosting congressional members and regulators relevant to this issue is an incredibly powerful advocacy tool for the industry. If you or your company would like to host an elected official at your facility, ILTA would be delighted to partner with you.
