ILTA to be Represented on DHS Unmanned Aerial Systems Advisory Council

ILTA will be represented on the United States Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Advisory Council addressing small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS). DHS’ Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) is re-establishing the sUAS Security Critical Infrastructure Partnership Advisory Council (CIPAC) Working Group. CISA’s role with sUAS Working Group is to help address security concerns posed by sUAS. CISA will also be working with other portions of the federal government and other stakeholders to address concerns posed by sUAS.

 The sUAS Security Working Group will provide a forum for public and private sector partners to collaboratively develop best practices and recommendations associated with the mitigation of risk to critical infrastructure posed by sUAS. Efforts of the working group will take into consideration the secure use of the technology and Federal Aviation Administration policies regulating its safe integration into the National Airspace System (NAS). The working group will also inform and make recommendations to the federal government on actionable, reliable, and scalable risk mitigation solutions for sUAS threats. 

CISA accepted nominations for working group members from various stakeholders, entities, and industry associations. ILTA sought volunteers from its Members and submitted Anthony Blake’s name as ILTA’s representative to the sUAS Working Group. Anthony works as the Director of Corporate Security for Martin Resource Management Corp. and is extensively familiar with sUAS and the threats posed by these aerial vehicles to terminal operations. Anthony will be providing ILTA with regular updates on the sUAS Working Group’s meetings. Additionally, the ILTA representative will have a voting seat on the Working Group, resulting in ILTA’s Members truly having a seat at the table on this important policy issue.
